On December 16, the Taisu Ventures team participated in our Community Connect initiative in partnership with TOUCH Home Care, supporting their Meals-On-Wheels (MOW) program in Jurong West.
The task itself was simple: deliver nutritious meals to seniors who are homebound and rely on this daily service for both sustenance and regular human contact. The conditions were not. A heavy downpour set in that afternoon, and our team split into small groups to carry out deliveries across the neighborhood, one hand holding an umbrella, the other carrying meal packets, going door to door to ensure no delivery was missed.
Moving through wet walkways, stairwells, and corridors slowed everything down. Each stop required patience and care: knocking, calling out, confirming receipt, and moving on to the next address. There were no efficiencies to optimize, no shortcuts to take. Just steady execution in less-than-ideal circumstances.
The experience was a sobering reminder of how privileged we are in our day-to-day work and lives. Many of us spend our time building, investing, and thinking at a level of abstraction that can easily distance us from the realities others face daily. Being out in the community, especially under difficult conditions, brought that contrast into sharp focus.
It also prompted reflection on responsibility. Privilege, if left unexamined, is passive. Used deliberately, it becomes a means to pay it forward and give back , not as a one-off gesture, but as a habit. Community Connect is one way we aim to translate that belief into action.
We’re grateful to TOUCH Home Care for the critical work they do in supporting seniors to age with dignity, and for allowing us to contribute in a small but tangible way. We look forward to continuing these efforts, rain or shine, as part of how we show up beyond our core investment work.
